Zak is Back

Zak Smith returns to his winning ways for Associated & Novak Smith with a win at the Cotswold BTCC.

With the Reedy Cotswold BRCA national only two weeks away Associated team driver Zak Smith scored a timely victory with his Novak powered TC6 at round three of this seasons Schumacher BTCC. All the top national drivers were present at the BTCC meeting so Zak can head for the national confident he has the pace. Also qualifying well was Zak?s team mate Chris Slater. Chris secured fourth on the grid for the pro Stock A final and finished fifth. So a good a great meeting for the pro stock team drivers and they will head to Cotswold in confident mood. In the 10.5 B final five TC6?s lined up with Tom Jefferies coming out the best of them with a third. The Pro Stock podium. In the modified class Olly Jefferies narrowly missed out on TQ and lined up for the A finals behind Andy Moore. Also showing well in qualifying was Jonny Aird in fourth and Alan Bickerstaff in seventh. Associated privateer Chris Kerswell in also made the A in sixth place. Olly made a disastrous start to leg one and dropped to last by the second corner. A spirited drive saw him claw his way back up to second. The second leg saw a second win for Andy Moore and Olly had to settle for second in the leg and second on the day. An accident similar that of Sergio Perez? Monaco shunt saw Alan Bickerstaff remove the one side of his car after a servo saver failure coming through the flat out chicane. This meant a ninth place for Alan and it was fifth for Jonny. The Modified podium. Star of the day was academy driver Ross Walker, from pole in the 10.5 D final Ross drove faultlessly to take both legs of the A and take the D final. It was a strong weekend for the team and great preparation for the BRCA national in two weeks. ?We are in really good shape, we still have a few things to fine tune which hopefully will give us a little more on the day. The team are covering all the options and I feel confident whatever happens we will have it covered. There was some great driving from the guys this weekend and everyone looks on the money? said Alan Bickerstaff after the race. Tom Jefferies' TC6 (left). Ross Walker; a champ in the making (right).
