Touring Car Euros

This years touring car Euros took place in Turkheim Germany, the British team were well represented with 21 drivers making the trip from the UK, among them were a number of CML team drivers.

Heading up the Yokomo challenge was Chris Grainger, after a slightly disappointing worlds Chris was keen for a good result and in practise his Checkpoint powered Yokomo BD looked quick and dialled. Backing up Chris was Olly Jefferies, he too used Checkpoint motors and he was also setting good times in both wet and dry conditions. Associated continue to develop their new prototype touring car and in the hands of Craig Drescher the new car was looking good on the fast flowing Turkheim track. The event was overshadowed by bad weather which spoilt practise and most drivers hit the track for qualifying unsure of their set up, the first round of qualifying was lost to the bad weather but in round two Olly found himself the beneficiary of a downpour which prevented the top heat posting a good time, Olly ended up third after round one. Round three saw a dry track and some serious racing for the first time, Craig, Chris and Olly all hit problems and this was a pattern that was too continue throughout qualifying. Electrical problems persisted for Craig preventing him posting a competive time causing frustration as the handling of the new car looked really good. Chris clipped a kerb on his best run and saw his chance of the A final disappear with one single mistake, Chris ended up 19th but salvaged something from the week by winning the B final and in doing so showing the his potential true form. Olly was also frustrated in his qualifying, a number of small problems with water in the electrical system meant Olly ended up qualifying 22nd. Adam Meakin and Byron Humphries both took their Checkpoint powered BD?s to the event and both drove extremely well for their first major international meeting on a fast and demanding track and both gained valuable experience of European competition. Congratulations from all at CML to Britain?s Andy Moore who added the European crown to the worlds title he won in Italy last month.
