Thern and Byron Claim Swedish Title

CML and Byron Fuels sponsored driver Linus Thern delivered a masterclass in 1/8th scale off-road to claim his 3rd National Championship title in style.

Despite much expectation and promise, the final wasn't quite as exciting as many had hoped, it proved to be more 'the Linus Thern show' as Linus was in a class for himself in the final. Total domination from start to finish earned him a deserved 3rd Swedish Championship title (2005, 2007 & now 2010). Former defending champ Ronnefalk had issues in both the semi and the final - flaming out before the start. In the final Linus Thern and Christoffer Svensson opened up a healthy lead, Ronnefalk having a bad start but up to 3rd after a few laps. Thern had opened a gap to Svensson and a game of cat and mouse ensued between the '08 and 09' champions. It was clear that after 25-30 mins many of the drivers' tyres had already gone off, this seemed to be the opposite case for Losi runner Mathias Larsson, as he had battled back from a flame out in the semi and now fighting through the pack in the final. He caught a struggling Svensson and wasn't far off Ronnefalk for 2nd at the end. A strong drive from him. Ronnefalk pushed hard but couldn't make up the gap Linus had created and kept adding to, however a combination of strategy and good driving saw him secure 2nd from Svensson with a third of the final left. Like Larsson, Mikael Palsson had a flameout in the semi and looked a good bet for a podium finish, a bad start cost him time but the veteran came back to finish 5th on the best looking tyres after the final. In the end Linus was the worthy victor, he was easily fastest man for the first two-thirds of the main, and kept a good pace when his tyres had gone off towards the end.
