The Frankley Charity Shield 2008

The Frankley Charity Shield 2008

The Frankley Charity Shield, which was held over the weekend at Frankley Model Car Club in Birmingham, was a huge success and included some hair-raising antics for event organiser Glynn.

There were 70 drivers in attendance across the buggy and truggy classes which showed good support for the charity event. At drivers briefing the explanation of how the day was to be made up of a couple of additional challenges including a 'Super Lap Challenge' and the 'Race of Champions' along with the standard race day format of 3 rounds of qualifying and finals. CML's Wes Myles was also tasked with raising enough money to see Glyn 'Maddog' Morgan have his head shaved for ?100 or ?200 for a full body wax! After the 3 rounds of qualifying had been completed it was down to a bit of charity fun with an event named 'Super Lap'. This was a very simpleand fun event which entailed the creation of a zone before the timing loop. Driver's cars were then place in the zone, without any marshals at all, with the aim to complete the fastest lap without crashing. If you crashed you were out! This was very entertaining and many of the top drivers crashed out while pushing for the number one spot. --Super Lap Results-- 1 Andrew Nicholas 43.67 2 John Murphy 45.08 3 Mathew Ball 45.85 4 Nick Simmerson 46.28 5 Simon Willetts 46.33 After the Super Lap followed a charity raffle with some great prizes to be won. Next followed the main racing events with 4 hard fought finals in the buggy class. Simon Willets came out victorious with an impressive performance. --Buggy A Final Results-- 1 Simon Willetts 19/ 929.89 2 Nick Simmerson 18/ 941.73 3 Lee Bunker 18/ 942.71 4 Andrew Webb 18/ 948.99 5 Mark Kay 17/ 949.47 --Truggy A Final Results-- 1 Andrew Nicholas 18/ 912.34 2 Micheal Lewis 18/ 997.21 3 Jack Laws 17/ 939.33 4 Callum Swingler 17/ 941.20 5 Chris Jukes 16/ 906.06 The final event of the day was the 'Race of Champions' which was made up of the winning drivers and pole position drivers from each final. To make this race fair handicaps were given to the A final drivers for both RallyX and Truggies (-4 laps), B Final drivers(-3 laps) and C Final drivers (-2 Laps). To make it even more fun and have an even level playing field the event was capped to just 10 minutes. --Race of Champions Final Results-- 1 Martin Hall D Final Winner 2 Sophie Harris E Final Winner 3 Simon Willetts A Final Winner 4 Matt Lewis B Final Pole Position 5 Mark Kay C Final Winner Overall the event was a huge success with Frankley Model Car Club raising over ?1,500 for charity. A big well done to all those involved especially the Maddog who kept to his word and had his head shaved after an extra ?100 was raised. Thank goodness we didn't have to see him get body waxed!
