The Buggy GP

The Buggy GP

Lanchester Garden Centre played host to the 2011 Buggy GP where the public was invited to try out the new Vantage buggy from FTX.

?The Buggy GP? took place the weekend of 6/7 August with the severe weather warnings of over one inch of heavy rainfall persuading over half the entrants to stay away. The Saturday morning started with a reasonably bright sky but it was always doubtful if the day?s racing schedule would be completed. The first round of 2wd and 4wd qualifiers were completed and with an early morning gathering of spectators the FTX Vantage 4wd Buggies from CML Distribution were an instant hit with those who wanted to have a go on the superb track. The cars coped with the purpose built asphalt track, table top and jumps without a hitch and received a lot of interest from the public and serious racers alike. With the second round of qualifying about to complete, the heavens opened and a downpour of biblical proportions quickly turned the venue into a riverside scene! Some spectacular thunder and lightening meant the rest of the days racing would be postponed and resume with a drivers briefing at 9am Sunday. Sunday saw a brighter day with the asphalt track having recovered well and the rest of qualifying and 3 leg finals were completed without a hitch. Once again, the public lined up to have a go of the FTX Vantage cars trying to beat the lap times of the dedicated racers. A few future R/C superstars emerged finding the steering wheel transmitter and easy set-up of the car very user friendly for a first timer. Back to the racing and David Pack took the overall win in 4wd class and Peter Craig in 2wd. Both taking a win in all 3 of their finals. Congratulations to all that took part and thanks to Lanchester Garden Centre, Teesside Radio Car Club, North East RC Racing, CML Distribution, Much-More UK and all who helped set-up and run the meeting.
