SNRC Winter Series Final

SNRC Winter Series Final

Team HoBao put on another great display to claim the title at the Stoke Nitro Racing Club RC-Bits.com Winter Series. Clive Maland reports back...

A hopeful start to the day, with all racers wishing for the first sunny and dry day of 2011, even though various reports suggested rain showers for later. The track was dry to start and when practice got underway Jon Howells showed early pace, with both him and Elliot Taylor tussling for the early lead down pit lane. Very light rain in rounds 2 did not effect progress too much. This start for Jon was how the rest of the day followed as he acheived 1st in every round and TQ for the finals. Mitchel Booth qualified well in 5th - best of the season to date, Lloyd Pitt 8th, Andy Nicholas 13th after a super drive in the B to bump up. As for me well it was first time out with the new Hobao HyperStar. My personal mission was to try and find a setup that I could work with on Astroturf and so I started the day with white springs and 30wt oil all round and with reasonably light diff oils, 5k front, 5k centre and 3k rear. Equipped with HoBao Angle Spikes I ventured out, trying various things during practice and qualifying, grey springs and different tyres etc. After the event I can?t help but think that for my first time out, the HyperStar buggy ran best on Angle Spikes with the white springs. A first time review showed nothing had worked loose, a good start and clear signs that the car is quick straight out of the box and easy to work on and adjust, ?A New Star Is Born?. While I started 4th in the B Final, I was hoping for the bump up position. Unfortunately an old glow plug put paid to that with 2 cuts after fuel refills! In the Buggy A main, Jon was up front with his Hobao HyperStar with Elliot Taylor and Richard Greenough behind. A very close start had Elliot and Jon all over each other fighting for that all important inside line. Half way round and Elliot made a mistake allowing Jon to storm off into an early lead. After 10 laps the race is all but won for Jon. Various issues for Elliot and Richard forced them both out. Mitchel in 7th place has a good run for the latter part of the race finishing in 4th. Lloyd finished in 5th and Andy Nicholas suffered some minor troubles and finished in 14th. Overall Series Points As the final round the overall points were sorted and verified and the overall positions were as follows: Jon Howells picks up his trophy (right).
