Snetterton Sucess for Steve!

Snetterton Sucess for Steve!

Stephen Lander/RB Engines and the Team Magic G4RS take another step towards the BRCA 200mm Rubber National title by taking a convincing national win at the technical Snetterton circuit.

Practice on saturday was a bit of a mixed affair as after a morning of laying down a bit of grip on the circuit in the afternoon the rains came and the track never really dried for the rest of practice. However it was noticed later in the day that Steve was seen trying a few new fantastic looking bodies from the Italian manufacturer Mon-tech. Both looked good but as quick laptimes were not really achievable on the semi damp circuit Stephen opted to use the Protoform DNA body he's had so much success with this year. Running the new G4RS from the Tiawanese company Team Magic, Steve lined up for the A-final on the 2nd grid spot with his RB powered ride, after some excellent qualifying Steve held TQ for the first 3 rounds but when the weather warmed up for the final qualifying round, local driver and Snetterton specialist Tristan Guest knew just how to get the best from his car and put in a fantastic run to claim pole. As the buzzer went to start the 30 minute A-final ,Steve showed that he was not happy to settle for anything but the win and was instantly showing his intent to pass Tristan, which he did within just a few laps, slowly stretching out his lead over the next 5 minutes, at which point Tristan pitted for fuel, Steve then turned on cruise mode as he realised he a had pit stop advantage over Tristan, as the 6 minute mark passed and Steve still didn't pit, his lead was by now looking unasailable as he was over a lap clear. Seven minutes passed and Steve still didn't pit for fuel, his pit-man Richard Spencer (stand-in for the ever Calm Bill Phillpot) still remained motionless in the pitlane, Richard had obviously been taking lessons from his Mechanic Mentor Billy! Stephen and his Stand-in mechanic Richard When the 8th minute was reached he called Stephen in for re-fuelling, "UNBELIEVABLE" was heard in the pit-lane! Super fast laps and over 8 minutes on a tank of fuel! The combination of G4 car/finely tuned RB R3 Engine and Byron Fuel has really looked superb this year. At the end of the final Stephen had increased his lead to over 5 laps on second place which was taken by Tristan Guest, with Ryk Pryke taking a well deserved 3rd place and the final place on the podium. Steve's RB/Byron powered G4RS has performed exceptionally With Stephen having missed the last national round at mendip whilst he was away racing for Team Associated at the Electric nationals, Ryk Pryke leads the championship at present untill dropped scores come into play but seems powerless to do anything about the totally all-round competitive package that Steve has this year. The next round of the 200mm Rubber IC nationals is at the Cotswolds Circuit on the 7th September. Article by Ray Swinner. Pictures courtesy of Rob Evans
