Silverstone Race Report

Saturday 14th October saw the first round of the Silverstone Winter Series take place at Moulton College.

Flying the Team Associated flag were drivers James Harold and William Venables. This was to be James' first race meeting with the Associated B64 using a set-up based on a testing evening at Silverstone the previous Tuesday. As usual some of the best drivers in the UK were in attendance so the competition was going to be tough. James was on pace from the get-go, putting the B64 in to 4th spot after the first round. The setup was working well but a few tweaks were needed to allow James to push a little harder.

The remaining 3 rounds showed that the car and James were enjoying the Silverstone EOS carpet and his changes were working. After all 4 rounds had concluded, James was to start 4th on the A final grid. A great performance.

After a cracking start the 4th spot was converted to 2nd place after just a couple of corner and James settled into the groove, sitting just behind Lee Martin. Both James and Lee pulled away from the rest of the pack and that's how it stayed for the duration of the final. James decided to make one small change to the car before the A final and this was to lower it a further 1mm to 13F/14R. This proved to work well and after the final James commented on how easy the car was to drive and and that he could carry more speed through the corners.

A good result for his first outing with the B64. His next meeting will be the West Bridgeford Buggy Blitz which is again on EOS carpet so we have a very good starting point to work with

Team driver William Venables also had a great showing in the 2WD devision with his Associated B6. With some of the best drivers in the country in attendance the 2WD competition was going to be close.  In round one, William was able to put together a fast, clean run, commenting that the car was very easy to drive. He was able to put the car 7th in round. In round two, again not making any changes, William went out again with another fast clean run, putting him 6th in round. A few tweaks for the third round,  Will went to a longer wheel base and a lower ride height. The final round of qualifying he went out again with a nice safe run to confirm is A final position to start 9th on the grid. The Final was one to remember. William getting himself through the pack to go from 9th on the grid to 3rd overall!

We want to congratulate both James and William on the cracking results and best of luck to the both for the rest of the series

Overall postions:

James: 2nd

William: 3rd
