RPM winning streak continues

Bradley Ellis and team mate Alex Mortimer took their second win of the 2006 British GT season at Rockingham last weekend. The pair stamped their authority on the weekend from the start being second quickest in the first test and fastest Porsche and 3rd quickest in the second test but still fastest Porsche.

Qualifying one saw Ellis hampered in traffic on all of his flying laps, leaving him 6th in class and 11th overall and frustrated to say the least! Session 2 saw Mortimer manage to squeeze a time good enough for second in class and 6th overall just 0.14s from pole. Race 1 saw a determined stint form Ellis drag him up the field from 6th to 3rd and begin to hunt down the lead pair of Porsches. At the driver change Mortimer was left with 6 seconds to close to the leaders which he did over the first 20 minutes of his stint. Having managed to overcome the second place Porsche of Ryan Hooker, Mortimer set his sights on the leader Matt Allison. With just under 4 minutes remaining the cars were separated by little more then a second when disaster struck the RPM car when lapping one of the Lotus GT3 cars. The Lotus lost control and spun into the RPM car destroying the front bumper, radiators, lights, front wing, door and sill. Clearly this was a very disappointing end to a strong race as the team were in fact lying 4th overall in the race ahead of some GT2 cars! Sunday morning saw a wet warm up in which RPM topped the time sheets in class and were 4th overall once more just 0.15s slower then the GT2 Ferrari 430 of Tim Mullen. The track however had dried by the time the second race had been called which left Mortimer to start the car. After a poor start Mortimer dropped to 4th but had soon clawed his way back to second and was left to hunt down the lead Ferrari of Adam Wilcox. After the driver change car Ellis returned to the track in second and was left the task of over coming the lead Ferrari which he did leaving him to control the race for the last 15 minutes which he did. At the fall of the flag Ellis was 10 seconds in front of the next car giving he and Mortimer there second win of the year. This result followed off the back of yet another RPM double win the previous weekend in the Radical Enduro at Thruxton where the team also set a new lap record during the race of 1m 12.9 seconds at an average speed of over 116mph.
