RPM Claims Podium at final round

The British GT championship drew itself to a close at the weekend at RPM's home circuit Silverstone. The CML supported pairing of Bradley Ellis and Alex Mortimer managed a solid third place in qualifying despite suffering from a misfire which was later traced to being debris in the clutch bellhousing having damaged the crank sensor. Filling the second spot on the grid was the sister RPM car being driven by Matt Griffin and Peter Bamford, claiming their highest qualification of the year.

The race held on Sunday afternoon was not run to the normal format of two one hour races, but instead one 2 hour race with a mandatory pitstop. From the off it was clear that the CML car now cured of its misfire was the class of field. After two laps it had moved its way to the front to lead its class and another 15 minutes later Bradley had moved his way 11 seconds clear of the nearest car. 28 minutes into the race a safety car was put onto the circuit for a crash that took some time to clear up. Many of the teams took this opportunity to bring there cars in but unfortunatly for RPM having only a 90 litre fuel tank they knew they would not have the capacity to run to the end of the race. As such they had to continue under the safety car and pit later meaning they lost there lead and a lap to the leaders. With Mortimer now on board he drove flat out for the duartion of his 1 hour and 20 minute stint dragging the car back upto second in class and ending just 20 seconds behind the winner. This result secured the team a solid third in the championship. They shall return next year with sights set clearly on nothing else but winning championship.
