Reedy 8:11 Series -Rnd 5

Jared Rogerson reports back from the Reedy 8:11 Series for Team Hobao.

With Craig Drescher away at the Euros? last weekend the race central standings were set to change at the top. The venue for round 5 was Deerdale off road, located just outside Nottingham in the East Midlands. The track is all astro and had noticeably high traction with lots of fast sweeping bends. The rain threatened all day but fortunately held out for the duration and the track remained dry. Practice / Rounds 1&2 Team Associated?s Dave Bailey took the honours in practice, with the team associated buggy looking dialled around Dave?s local circuit. Dave then showed his intentions by taking the pace shown in practice into the first round, with a very quick 9 lap result. The tide tipped towards hobao team captain Jon Howells in round 2 averaging 44.21 second laps the Hobao Hyperstar was able to meet the demands of the tough Deerdale circuit. Round 3 It was all to play for in Round 3 and the battle for the all important TQ was raging. Jon was able to replicate the pace and consistency shown in round 2 to place his Hobao Hyperstar on the number 1 spot with Dave hot on his heels in second with another young Hobao Team driver Ashlee Owen driving the Hyperstar Qualifying 7th on the Grid. The Finals Team Hobao?s Lloyd Pit qualified 2nd on the grid in the B final and drove an excellent race to take 3rd place and the final bump up position into the A main, well done Lloyd great drive. Onto the ?A? main both Jon and Dave made a clean gateway and managed to avoid the first corner pile up. The intense battle was cut short however when Jon Howells had to return to the pits for a stop go penalty due to an altercation at the start. This handed the lead to Dave Bailey and his RB powered rc8b 2 who controlled the race from this point forward, great testimony to both driver and car. Jon Howells pushed his Hyperstar to the end and his persistence paid off working his way through the pack to finish a respective 3rd just 0.5 seconds from 2nd. Ashley gained another 2 places from 7th on the grid to finish 5th with a faultless drive, Lloyd managed to gain a further four places from 14th on the grid to 10th.
