Olly kicks off the Winter in Style

With two winter meetings under his belt Olly Jefferies gets AE off to a flying start.

Round one of the Ardent winter saw series saw Olly Jefferies line up to defend the title he won last year. It was a dream start for the Associated driver as Olly's TC6 controlled things from the front taking TQ and two straight A final wins. It was a convincing win for Olly who controlled the pace from the front and never looked troubled by the chasing pack. Last weekend saw the first of 1:12 BRCA nationals, once again the superb permanent facility of Ardent Raceway played host. Saturday would be the new stock format with none timed speedos. Sunday was the more familiar format of modified. Saturday, and Olly grasped the new format quicker than others posting TQ in round one. As drivers got quicker and adapted to the new format Olly stayed on top dominating qualifying and putting the Associated R12 on pole for the A final. Lining up behind Olly was multiple champion Dave Spashett who was making a welcome return to the 1:12 scene where he made his name in the early days. From the buzzer Olly built up a small lead and was looking comfortable until he came a across a crashed car and hit it! Olly?s car needed to be marshaled and the resulting mayhem dropped Olly to the back of the grid. Fighting back Olly got back up to third for what was a disappointing result after going so well in qualifying. Dave Spashett crowned a dream return winning ahead of Mark Stiles and Olly Sunday and Olly was determined to put the disappointment of Saturday behind him and picked up where he left off on Saturday with another TQ in round one. Olly stayed top of the time sheets polishing off a great weekend of qualifying taking top spot in every round. No crashed cars got in Olly's way this time as he swept to victory on Sunday taking the overall win for Associated with a buzzer to flag victory, a truly dominating performance that possibly should have been a win on both days but sometimes racing can be a little cruel. Olly switches back to his TC6 for his next event which is round two of the Ardent Winter Touring Series.
