Olly Jefferies tastes victory at Carpet Masters

The first round of the annual CML Carpet Masters series held at Stafford Model Car Club's indoor venue got underway this last weekend with a good competitve field.

Regular Stafford racers Andy Robson, Ian Whittigham, Ryan Edwards, Adam Meakin and David Ward were joined by new Associated signing Olly Jeffries. The qualifying sessions provided some excellent and extremely close times with the top guys all lapping within 1/10th of a second of each other. After the first 2 rounds it was Andy Robson who had sneaked in front with a time less than 1/10th in front of Olly. In the final round Olly managed to put it all together and just sneak his TC5R through for the 33rd lap giving him the overall TQ, with Andy second and Ian Whittingham 3rd with his Yokomo. Also making the main final were Darius Walker, David Ward (TC5R), Ryan Edwards (Yok BD), Zak Smith (TC5R) and Adam Meakin. The track at the SMCC. The first of the 2 finals saw Olly get away from pole position, and despite a nervy first lap he kept his car in front and started to edge away from the pack. Then, at about 2 minutes he clipped an inside edge with his offside front tyre and it flipped him on his lid. This allowed Andy to get in front and maintain a lead he would never lose with Olly coming home second. The 2nd final again saw Olly make a small error and allow Andy in front but this time Olly chased him down hard and going into the final 40 seconds he was on him. Olly looked inside and out tried everything he could to get around Andy until going onto the final lap Andy ran a fraction wide coming onto the straight and Olly was up the inside of him and he was through. Unfortunatley as they went side by side down the straight andy caught the outside piping and popped a ball stud off, preventing him from making a challenge over the final lap. As it was these were the only 2 drivers to make it through for the extra lap so Andy was not to lose a place. This victory gave Olly the overall win from Andy. The associated TC5 is the car to beat this year.
