Hyper Star Testing
Team HoBao Captain Jon Howells took his Hyper Star to round 2 of the Derby Summer Series for some serious testing.
We rolled up to a damp Derby track to have a go round the new section the Derby team had been working on over the weekend. The track is full astro with several jumps and lap times around 36-37 seconds. With 4 rounds of qualifying and a 30 minute 'A' final, we set about learning the new track.
From the off we noticed how bumpy the track was. To address this issue in round 2 we lightened the shock oil to Fastrack 30WT and found it worked better.
After the 4 rounds we had TQ in the bag with Lloyd Pitt putting his Hyper Star in 5th place in the 'A' and Kev Bourne unlucky in the B final having a run away car hit him flat out, bringing his race to a sudden end.
As it was a test day for both myself and Lloyd we tried different tyres for the final. Lloyd used yellow pins and I tested the JC Sabretooth tyres in a medium compound. We both got off to a good start as I pushed up to 1st with Lloyd quickly up to 2nd. Lloyd made a few costly errors which left him 5th at the drop of the flag. I had a controlled race to win by a lap on 2nd place, James Bullivant.
