Howler & HoBao on a Roll

Howler & HoBao on a Roll

The 3rd round of the popular CML Winter series took place at Frankley the weekend after the original date was cancelled due to Extreme snow

After all the snow and a number of cancelled meetings due to the freak weather and the Christmas break we were all itching to kick off the new year. Order of the day was to be 3 rounds of qualifying and 15 minute across the board finals. Live Video and timing were again used for this event with thanks to Teddy Truman of TTRC and Pirate RC. After a great finish to 2010 with the new HoBao HyperStar Jon Howells rolled up to a damp Frankley track full of confidence. With a few top drivers in attendence such as Richard Taylor and his Losi, Elliot Boots' new RB powered Durango and Si Willetts testing out the HyperStar the pace would be quick. With the usual format of 3 rounds of qualifying with 2 to count, Jon kicked off 2011 with the addition of the new RB Cross10 engine. This was chosen for having a smoother power delivery and proved to be a wise choice as the track was pretty slippy early one. The new engine combo suited the Hyper perfect helping Jon to take TQ in round one closely followed by Si Willetts. Round 2 for Buggies, with the track drying saw lap times get faster and so did the Hypers by taking round 2 and overall TQ for Jon! At around 3pm the flag dropped and the A final started. Taking full advantage of pole position Jon set off round the first bend and quickly got into a good rhythm. With so many top drivers here it was going to take a cool head to go all the way . The New RB Cross10 and HyperStar performed faultlessly as Jon led from start to finish with Richard Taylor coming 2nd. Si Willetts was looking good for 3rd but for a few costly mistakes on his last couple of laps, enabling CML team mate Tony 'Smiler' Truman to take full advantage by clinching 3rd with his Reedy powered Team Associated RC8B. Worthy mention to Lloyd Pitt who also put his HoBao into the A Final sporting the new HyperStar pivot ball front suspension. All smiles on the buggy podium. In Truggy qualifiying Peter Wrigglesworth took the first 2 rounds and TQ with Neil Sivins taking the final round. During the final Peter took control and never looked back to take the overall win. Next event will be CML Rd 4 on the 16th Jan. Booking in can be found on the frankley website Details on the release of the new HyperStar will be announced soon, ready for the 2011 season.
