GPV-1 Race Day News

Dez Chand, Editor of RRCi, is a full scale motorbike enthusiast as well as an RC fan. So when the 1/8th scale Venom GPV-1 arrived he was very excited.

The Bedworth Christmas fun meeting was the first chance for many lucky people who got a Venom GPV-1 for Christmas to hit the track, and bikers came from near and far, including Joe from Luton and Peter from New Zealand (via Notting Hill!) A new lap record for stock bikes was set at 26.67 secs under race conditions in dry but near freezing temperatures, yet the kit tyres and chassis were working well. In the final the modified bikes push the limit with occasional wheelies and plenty of power slides, pushing the lap record to 24.52 secs with the Novak Mongoose 13.5T brushless combo fitted to an otherwise standard bike. By carefully choosing from the optional tyres and wheels alloy parts and gearing, brakes, motors and speed controllers available, the lap times are sure to tumble! You can see the video of a flying lap here.....

A series of races at tracks around the country are planned, so check with your local track to see if it will accommodate a heat of these bikes in their club championships, and watch this space for an end of season race meeting to give everyone the chance to meet and compete together. TOP TECH TIP - Be sure to get lots of car park practise before hitting the track, master the art of cornering and aiming at apexes, braking and turning in good time. Remember, it's not a car and will not drive like one, learn to think bike. Steer with the throttle, a tight corner requires a slower entry speed, and the corner exit direction is decided by the point at which you begin to feed in the power.
