German Nationals

Hobao/CML driver, and the man behind PSM option parts, Stefan Scheuenpflug reports back from his recent success at the last round of the German National series where he took victory with his Hyper 9.

Friday - Rain stops play! On Friday we had really bad weather, the track was underwater and it was not possible to start the training heats. Saturday - Good Times. Due to yesterday's bad weather the organisers started with rounds 5 & 6 of the Training Heats. The Hyper 9 running like a dream I ws able to set the fastest time for Round 6 and got Pole in Group 1 for the Qualifying Heats. Qualification Round 1 was very good for me, place one after round 1. The same for Quali Round 2, the Car was very well from beginning and I was able to set the fastest time again. Round 3 was also good but I tried some other tyres and the had not to much grip at all. 3rd place in this round. For Round 4 I returned to the original tyres and was able to set the fastest time again. Sunday - Success Round 5 was bad because I had an poor mistake and the track was much better for the previous heats. A respectable 4th place would have to do for the final round of qualifying. However, it was a good start to the morning as I had secured TQ after all 5 rounds. We had Semi-Final training before the Quater Finals and we have tested some tyres with success. We?ve changed the setup because of the weather conditions. I won the semi final with 10 Seconds ahead of Andreas Bartels and had the fastest time of both finals. The car was perfect for me and I was very optimistic for the final where I would start from pole position. The start was okay and I maintained 1st position at the first corner. Although the car had performed fantastically the whole weekend I was driving too carefully and that was to be my mistake. I found myself forced back by Reckward on the first lap so he had a free track and I was on place 3. Over the 40 min main final I saved one refuelling stop and I was able to secure the 2nd place. Then, a few minutes before the 40 min mark, Reckward had 2 flame outs and dropped back to 4th place. This meant I could charge forward undisturbed and take my first victory of the season. My success was thanks to my mechanics Felix & Peter and a perfect performance from my HoBao Hyper 9! I saw there was just a few people driving the Hyper 9 at the Nationals so I'm optimistic this win for HoBao will get the Hyper 9 the respect it certainly deserves.
