Darren Johnson Takes Title

The 7th round of the 2007 BRCA 200mm Touring championship took place at the Wrexham circuit, This was a new circuit on the calendar for this year, and represented a different challenge than most of the other circuits.

Saturday practise was run in good conditions, with the track giving good grip right from the start of the day, this gave everyone the chance to get to learn the tight track, where good lines are all important ! The forecast for Sunday was not quite as good, but for qualifying everyone had a dry run. Unfortunately the weather man was correct and it started to rain part way through the finals. After qualifying, Ben Cosgrove took TQ, from Darren Johnson, Kyle Branson and Stephen Brown. Times were close again so it looked like it would be a great final. By the time the A final started it had been raining for a while, which at least meant everyone was able to prepare their cars for the conditions. Ben managed to get a good clean start to lead from a fast starting Kyle with Darren in 3rd, Darren managed to get by Kyle after a few laps, and set about chasing Ben for the lead. At the second attempt Darren put a clean pass on Ben, and tried to pull away, but the others had other ideas ! After a while Darren managed to pull out a small gap, which was extended after he managed to save a fuel stop. At the flag Darren took the win with Chris Slater in second under second in front of Kyle ! With his third win of the season, Darren wins the Touring Championship for the third consecutive season. Darren used the K-factory tyres, together with the Protoform Dodge 3.1, and for the first time he raced using the next generation of Byron Race fuel.
