CML's James Harrold Off To A Good Start At Round 1 Silverstone Winter Series

CML Junior Team Driver James Harrold drove his Reedy Powered B44.3 to a well deserved 2nd place in the 4wd class at the 1st round of the Silverstone Winter Series.

It was a bit of an unknown this year as Silverstone have changed their track surface from Astro to something more carpet like so tyre choice was key. After practice 2 we opted for 4wd cut staggers up front and mini spikes on the rear, this allowed James to push hard when needed but still gave enough drive out of the corners.

Qualifying saw James straight on pace for the A-main with a fast 14 lap run, 15 laps was going to be needed to put him near the front of the grid. Q3 and Q4 would see James push hard and ended qualifying with a good 4th place spot.

The A final was going to be a close one and James made the best of his good start to make it up to third by the second corner with Andy Webb taking the lead. A couple of mistakes saw this lead disappear as David Poulter passed him with James in tow and pushing his Reedy powered Team Associated B44.3 hard. For most of the final James and Andy swapped places but grip roll was Andy's downfall and saw him finish a lap down in the end. James was putting in good consistent clean laps towards the end and was closing the gap to David in first but there was not enough time to catch David and finally secured a good second place.

4WD Top 3
1. David Poulter 15 314.01
2. James Harrold 15 321.14
3. Andy Webb 14 305.87

A good clean race and as usual a meeting that ran like clockwork thanks to the Silverstone Team.
Roll on Round 2 in November.
