Champagne moment for Howells

Champagne moment for Howells

CML team driver Jon Howells bounced back in spectacular style from a disappointing result at the previous round of the 2007 Radio Race Car International 1/8th Rallycross series to take an emphatic TQ and win at the BNRC club?s Frankley circuit.

Right from the outset Jon was clearly on a mission to wrap up the defence of his 2006 title in style. He qualified first in every round securing the extra ?top qualifier? point and first place on the A final grid ahead of Greg Hill and Antony Flynn. As the starting flag rose, Jon?s Picco powered HoBao Hyper 8.5 tore off into the distance in a ruthless display of how to master this challenging Astro turf circuit. Even having amassed a huge lead over the rest of the A final field his pace never dropped below 100% so after 20 minutes of merciless driving he came home with a massive two lap lead to secure his fourth victory of the series and clamp both hands firmly around the 2007 series title. Mark Redmond finished second ahead of Antony Flynn in third. Though the series still has two rounds to run at Deerdale and Swindon, Jon can?t be beaten in the championship points now and so apparently succeeds in taking back-to-back series wins in this popular and exciting clubmans championship. Round six at Deerdale on 16th September. I would just like to add a big thank you to all at CML for their support this season.
