Carpet Wars Two Day World Cup

Carpet Wars Two Day World Cup

Last weekend Carpet Wars Two Day World Cup saw another strong performance from the Associated TC5 with Olly Jefferies finishing second overall.

For this event Maritime Racing returned to the large sprawling venue of the black Lion Leisure Centre for the Two Day World Cup. The large track is a big favourite with touring car drivers and the meeting attracted a full entry with 16 heats covering three touring car classes, modified, Pro Stock and 6.5 lipo. Also catered for was a heat for the new World GT class. Elliott Harper proved to be the man to beat in qualifying, Olly gave chase in the first two rounds and was the closest to Elliott ending up second in the first two rounds, a poor third round saw Olly drop to fifth but in round four Olly was back up speed. Elliott had enjoyed a pressure free run up to now but now Olly was on FTD pace, as the heat developed the two drivers swapped the lead but as the clock stopped it was Elliott that had kept his top spot, but now Olly was only four tenths behind. The final round of qualifying was on Sunday morning and was a last chance for Olly to challenge Elliott. Unfortunately for Olly the changing overnight track conditions did not suit his set up change and he pulled off after a few laps to save his tyres The track was quicker than Olly had anticipated and he was forced to watch nervously as drivers around him improved their times. Andy Moore was only driver to effect Ollys position and the Cyclone driver demoted Olly to third on the grid for the A final. Olly's Team Associated TC5 Three hard fought finals followed qualifying and Elliott was able to ease out a lead and stay out of trouble while the pack behind squabbled for places. The final results saw a win for Elliott and Olly second, Adam Rogers completed the top three with Andy Moore fourth and Chris Kerswell fifth. ?The TC5 performed really well on track that seem to change with every run, I am now starting understand more about how the car works and the difference small set up changes make, I still need to keep working on my carpet set ups but also trade that off against some tarmac work I having been doing in preparation for the UK nationals. It feels like a lot of work at the moment but I think we are now starting to see the real potential of the car and moving in a very positive direction? Olly Jefferies. This coming weekend Olly races at the final round of the Carpet Masters series with a serious chance of winning the title. His main challenge will come from fellow TC5 driver and team mate Andy Robson who is currently leading the masters.
