BTCC Race Report

Mendip hosted the final round of this seasons BTCC and Team Associated were looking good.

The seaside venue of Mendip was the place to be at the weekend as the UK touring car community descended on the West Country track for the final round of this seasons Schumacher BTCC. Drivers were also looking for some track time at the venue with the final round of the BRCA nationals also taking place at Mendip in two weeks time. In modified Olly Jefferies qualified fourth and Alan Bickerstaff sixth. With a DNF in the first of the two leg A finals Olly chances of lifting the modified title all but disappeared. Keen to put in a strong performance Olly went on to take leg two of the A final after a fine dice on a damp track with Andy Moore, but the DNF form leg one would drag Ollys overall score down and he would finish off the podium on the day. Making up for Ollys disappointing race result was Alan Bickerstaff, Alan finished an excellent second overall with his Novak powered TC6 on the day, this result is hopefully a sign of things to come when Alan fly?s back to the UK for the national in two weeks. In the championship Olly lost the title by one point to Andy Moore and had to settle for second place in the series, making it two TC6?s on the championship podium was Johnny Aird who finished third in the series for Reedy/Associated. Alan Bickerstaff & Johhny Aird's TC6 Touring Cars. In Pro Stock Zak Smith was in a similar position to Olly going in to the meeting, and after taking the leg one win in the pro Stock A final it was all looking good for Zak. Leg two and Zak got off to a great start and was leading early on and the decision by the team to put Zak out on wet tyres looked really good, then as the track dried a little the chasing pack hunted Zak down and he was overhauled in the dying seconds of the final and like Olly lost the title by a single point. A second place on the day was some reward for Zak after a very mature drive in difficult conditions . Overall the BTCC has been very successful for the team with some outstanding performances from the TC6. All the rounds contested by the team were hosted by clubs holding national events and the testing time it has provided has proved really useful to all drivers. The team will aim to end the season on a high with a strong performance back at Mendip in two weeks time.
