BRCA 1/8th National - Talywain

Round 6 of the BRCA 1/8th Off Road series took place at a very soggy Talywain track.

It was actually a miracle that the race was able to be held at all as the rain that fell on the saturday was biblical. However we awoke sunday morning to clear skies and sunshine and when we reached the track it was in surprisingly good shape, although the car park was a swamp which meant the car parking had to get inventive. When the racing finally got underway it was Neil Cragg who took round 1 with a fast and controlled drive in the slippery conditions, his RB/Byron powered Associated RC8 looking well balanced. In round 2 it was Darren who took the round from Neil, although the times were slower as the track had been altered because in round 1 the cars were crossing the loop at high speed and occasionally not counting. Round 3 and it was Simon Willetts who took the round with his Byron fuelled car from Neil Cragg and this gave Neil the overall TQ for the meeting. This has now made the TQ's even between Neil and Darren with 3 a piece from the 6 events thus far. Neil was joined in the main final by teammates Paul Bradby, Lee Martin, Richard Barton and bumping up from the B final Elliott Boots and Craig Drescher making 6 Associated RC8 cars in the final. The main final turned into a close fight between Neil and Darren just as it had at Shrewsbury, these 2 noticeably quicker than the opposition. The swapped positions a few times early on and then an error from Neil saw Darren take about a 4-5 second advantage that Neil just couldn't close down, the 2 cars were so evenly paced that that regaining the time without Darren making an error was impossible. So Darren took the win from Neil 2nd and David Crompton 3rd. Craig Drescher drove good final to take 4th as he did at Shrewsbury, on both occasions bumping out of the B final. This now means that we have had 6 different winners from 6 events, those being Graham Alsop, Simon Willetts, David Crompton, Jon Hazelwood, Neil Cragg and now Darren Bloomfield. This just goes to show how competitive this class has been this year. The next round is at Slough at the begining of September.
