BRCA 1/10th National - Rnd 4

The fourth round of the BRCA 1/10th Off road series took place in glorious sunshine at Oswestry over the weekend. Dave Duggan report back from the event...

The fantastic weather leading up to the race had left the ground incredibly dry, and it wouldn't take long for the grass to wear away to uncover the dry, hard packed soil underneath. The usual fairly large grass track with a few man made jumps was laid out for the drivers, which would provide the usual challenges in set up as the grass wears away. The 2wd competition saw quick times going in from Ellis Stafford, Lee Martin and Tom Cockerill. Despite the best efforts of Lee and Ellis, Tom would go on to take the win with some excellent driving in the finals. Tom looks to be in pole position for the overall championship now with four very good scores already on the board, including two wins. The main talking point of the day was the out of the blue Twister, which spooled up and ripped Simon Moss's gazeebo straight up in the air by about 25 feet, tearing the guide rope fixings off in the process. The unfortunate part was it landing on Richard Lowe's car and causing plenty of panel damage. I'm not sure acts of god are covered in motor insurance but lets hope so for his sake. Onto Sunday and 4wd, in which the racing was super close on times. At times there were 3 drivers on the same second which put a premium on clean runs. Championship leader and Fastrax/Savox man, Lee Martin was the man who made the best of it to take pole position with Ellis Stafford (Savox) second and Paul Bradby (AE/Reedy/Fastrax/Etronix) in third. Phil Sleigh also placed his RC10B44 FT in the main in fifth. Some of the buggies on show over the weekend. After a great scrap at the front in leg one, Paul Bradby took a well deserved win from Ellis and Lee. Into the second leg and Paul again got away and was in total control, when at the four minute mark his car suddenly stopped. After an investigation it was found to be a faulty deans connector that cost him certain victory. Lee Martin would go on to take victory in this leg, and then drove lights to flag in the final leg to win the meeting and take the championship in the shortest time possible. Congratulations to Lee for taking Savox to another BRCA title in only the second year of competition. You can view our full picture gallery of the event here.
