Associated R5 wins Euros

Associated R5 wins Euros

Last weekends EFRA 1:12 European champions at Hinckley saw a dominating performance from the Associated 12R5.

Team Associated had a strong line up in the modified class of this years Euros with Finnish driver Juho Levanen teaming up with his UK team mate Olly Jefferies. In the Spec Pro Stock class Keith Robertson was on hand and hoping to transfer his recent good domestic form into a good international result. Juho dominated modified qualifying with Olly hot on his heels. The R5 looked the class of the field and these two were well out in front as qualifying got underway on Friday afternoon. Driving under the Yokomo banner German Ronald Volker was also using an R5 and he looked the only driver capable of matching Juho and Olly?s pace. A couple of times Ronald got on to FTD pace but ran short of run time near the end of the round. All through Saturday the R5 continued to set the pace but late into the last run of qualifying Ronald split the two Associated drivers and lined up for the A final behind Juho but just ahead of Olly. In Spec Pro Stock Keith started slowly but in the later rounds of qualifying got his R5 up to fifth for the A final. The first modified A final saw a good start for Juho who went on to win leg one, Olly got hit at turn one effectively ending his challenge. Leg two fell to Ronald Volker setting up a nail biting final leg, once again Olly got hit at turn one and did not recover finishing well down. The third and final leg saw a controlled run from Juho who led from start to finish with Ronald second, Olly managed to stay out of trouble this time and finished third in the leg. The modified results confirmed Juho Levanen as the new EFRA European 1:12 champion, a worthy result after dominating the qualifying rounds. Olly ended up fifth and top Brit. Thing were going well for Keith Robertson, a second in leg two of the Pro Stock final gave Keith the chance of a top three result and he delivered, a fourth in the final leg of the A final gave Keith his best Euros result a very well deserved third overall. The weekend was a great success for the R5 particularly in modified Lipo specification and the drivers got the very best out of the car, Olly will have a few more details on his set up in the next episode of his blog here on the CML web site, he may also share some tips he got from Juho! Worthy of a mention was Tom Jefferies, driving the Fastrax R5 Tom was contesting his first 1:12 Euros and won the Spec C final ahead of a few much more experienced 1:12 racers, a good result for someone relatively new to the class. Keith and Olly will hope to carry this form on to the next BRCA national, the final round takes place at Chesterfield in two weeks time, both drivers are in the hunt for a top thee place in both Modified and Pro Stock classes. Team, Team Associated at the European 12th Finals. Congratulations to all the Associated who drove so well at the 2010 EFRA Euros, a great performance.
